Library of Congress record: Created 1912(?) Harry Kellar (1849-1922) spent his early years in magic assisting the Fakir of Ava, the Davenport Brothers, and William Fay. Over time, he came to dominate American magic in competition with Alexander Herrmann (1844-1896) who was also known as Herrmann the Great. Kellar and his touring show performed with great success in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States. In 1907, he became the first person to be named Dean of American Magicians. When Kellar retired in 1908, Howard Thurston (1869-1936) became his successor and transformed Kellar's stage act into The Wonder Show of the Universe.""
