Library of Congress record: Created 1914 Oct 18 publication date No copyright information found with item. Signed, lower right: Clubb 14. [club logogram]. Title inscribed in pencil below image. Bequest and gift; Caroline and Erwin Swann; 1974; (DLC/PP-1974:232.90) In the 1914 New York gubernatorial race, former President Theodore Roosevelt publicly endorsed Progressive party nominee Fredrick M. Davenport, moving away from his Republican party affiliation as he had in the 1912 presidential election. The Republican candidate for governor was former District Attorney Charles Seymour Whitman who was closely tied to the corrupt New York State G.O.P. boss, William Barnes. Roosevelt's intense dislike for Barnes made it impossible for him to support Whitman. Clubb's cartoon was probably inspired by Roosevelt's passionate campaign speech on behalf of Davenport,.

Available framed in a classic black wood frame ready to hang, or unframed for custom display. An elegant choice for any living room, study, or professional office. Makes a thoughtful and distinctive gift. Fr
