Step back in time with this striking reproduction of Speaker elected for 'Little Congress.' Washington, D.C., Mar. 7. Sourced from the United States Library of Congress.
Library of Congress record: Created 1940 March 7 Title from unverified caption data received with the Harris & Ewing Collection. Gift; Harris & Ewing, Inc. 1955. General information about the Harris & Ewing Collection is available at Speaker elected for 'Little Congress.' Washington, D.C., Mar. 7. The 'Little Congress' composed of secretaries and office workers of members of Congress, after two elections, selected Nathaniel Turnball, assistant secretary to Senator Charles Andrews of Florida, as its speaker for the next 12 consecutive weeks. The first election was thrown out last week when somebody pointed out that more ballots were cast than there were voters. This preicipitated a first fight. The election, won by turnball, was hald again last night, and was guaranteed 'free from ballot-stuffing,'.
